What is Artisans.Golf

‘Everyone, regardless of financial standing, should have access to the game of golf’

What is Artisans.Golf?

The first Artisan club was founded at the North Devon GC in 1888, where J.H.Taylor had been a green keeper. He went on to be co-founder and the first chairman of the PGA. He later captained the 1933 Great Britain Ryder Cup team to a win over the United States.

Artisans golf was created to give working people the chance to play affordable golf on great courses.

Gradually, Artisans golf spread throughout the country — usually as a form of associate membership in existing golf clubs.

Typically, Artisans pay a lower fee in return for helping to maintain the parent club’s course. The clubs give reserved weekday and weekend playing times, and the Artisans provide monthly work parties to assist the greens staff. This may include raking bunkers, replacing divots or repairing pathways.

Artisans play socially, medal, Stableford and county knockout golf competitions. Also they play matches against other Artisans and their parent clubs throughout the season.

If you currently play in a golf society or have the odd round with friends, but you’d like to find out about playing more often, in a club environment and gaining an official CONGU handicap, please find your nearest club listed below.
